After all, this list began with just six EBT discounts back in 2015. That’s when I discovered the very first one at the Washington State History Museum. In the last 10 years, we’ve witnessed an explosion in the popularity of these programs, and we’re adding dozens of new entries every month.
EBT Discounts for Shopping
There are several shopping apps that will provide you with an EBT discount if you use their service. These include subscription services like Amazon and Walmart!
Amazon EBT Discount
You can unlock all the benefits of Amazon Prime for half the price through Amazon Access. This program is exclusively for people who receive government assistance through Medicaid, SNAP, or other qualifying programs.

Target Circle 360
You can save over 50% on your monthly Target Circle 360 membership when you show proof that you participate in a qualifying government program like SNAP, SSI or Medicaid.

Walmart+ EBT Discount
Walmart also has an EBT discount for users who want to sign up for Walmart+. This program is called Walmart+ Assist. Just like Amazon Access, it provides a 50% discount for users who get benefits from government programs.
If you qualify, you can get Walmart+ Assist for just $6.47 per month. The benefits of this program include free delivery from your local store, free shipping with no order minimum, savings on fuel, video streaming from Paramount+ and more. Sign up here.
FREE Thrive Market Membership
Thrive Market is the first all-online retailer to accept EBT benefits nationwide. However, shoppers are required to have a membership in order to log into the website and see prices.
If you receive EBT benefits, you can get a free Thrive Market membership through the Thrive Gives program. This discount is also available to first responders, teachers, nurses, students, and veterans. The free membership lasts for one year.
Just visit the Thrive Gives website and click the big “Apply Now” button to start your application.
Instacart+ EBT Discount
If you’ve used your EBT card to order on Instacart at least once in the last six months, you may be able to get a discount on Instacart+. If you qualify, you can get Instacart+ for just $4.99 per month for up to 12 months. After one year, your membership will renew at the regular price.
You just need to sign into Instacart, click the menu in the upper left corner, and select “Try Instacart+” from the list to find the exclusive EBT discount.
Shipt EBT Discount
If you receive EBT, you could get a discounted Shipt membership for just $4.99 per month. That’s more than 50% off the regular price of a standard Shipt membership. You’ll get all of the membership benefits like $0 delivery and the Preferred Shopper feature.

EBT Discounts for Food
If you’ve got EBT benefits, then you may be able to unlock exclusive discounts on food as well! This is a great way to stretch your food stamps dollars and get more food with your benefits.
Double (or Triple) Your Benefits
You can double or even triple the value of your EBT benefits through programs like Double Up Food Bucks, Market Match and more! These are some of the best EBT discounts out there because they essentially give you free food when you shop at certain participating retailers with your EBT card.
It’s not just limited to farmer’s markets any more, either. In the last few years, I’ve found dozens of grocery store chains, farm stands, farm delivery programs and others that are allowing you to get free food when you shop with your SNAP benefits.
Find a participating location near you by visiting our list of Double Up Food Bucks (and similar program) locations. You’ll need to visit a participating location with your EBT card to get extra food.
Community Supported Agriculture EBT Discounts
Many Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs provide EBT discounts as well. The exact amount of this discount will vary depending on which program you want to buy into. Some of them provide a discount on each week’s box, while others provide an initial discount on your first box.
Not every CSA program offers these discounts, but it’s worth checking with your local program to see if they do. Just search online for Community Supported Agriculture programs near you. Contact them directly to ask if they offer an EBT discount. The worst they can do is say no!
You-Pick Fresh Produce Farms
In the last few years, more and more farmers have been approved to process EBT payments and many of them use discounts to incentivize you to shop local. Some of them offer an EBT discount when you pick your own produce as well.
Just search online for you-pick farms near you. You can reach out to them online or visit them in person to ask if they offer an EBT discount.
EBT Discounts on Bills
If you receive SNAP, TANF or other EBT benefits, then you may be eligible for discounts on essential services like phones and internet plans. These discounts really add up and they can help you save a lot of money on your monthly bills!
Phone Discounts
If you have EBT benefits, you may be able to get free phone service through the Lifeline program. There are over a dozen different providers that offer free service through this program, and some even offer free smartphones when you sign up! Pick the best provider for you.
Internet Discounts
Many different Internet Service Providers (ISPs) also offer free or discounted internet service for low income Americans. These include well-known plans like Comcast Internet Essentials, AT&T Access and more. These plans are typically less than $25 per month, which is a huge savings compared to normal internet bills.
If you don’t want to use your Lifeline subsidy to get free phone service, you can use it toward your internet bill instead. This may help you save an extra $9.25 as well.

Utility Discounts
In addition to helpful low income assistance programs like LIHEAP, many utility companies also offer additional fee waivers for low income customers.
We’ve researched a lot of power companies and other utility providers over the years, and this is a fairly common offering especially for low income seniors, veterans, or people with disabilities. The discounts typically only apply to the base fees and not your usage charges, but it can still make a big difference!
YMCA Discounts
YMCA organizations typically offer discounts for low income individuals and families. These discounts may result in a sliding-scale charge that will drastically reduce the cost of your membership. You just need to reach out and ask your local YMCA about any sliding scale rates they offer.
A YMCA discount can help you save money on fitness services, child care, swimming pools and other recreation services. It can provide a lot of family entertainment at a low cost.
College Application Fees
Many colleges and universities waive application fees for students from low income families. If you’re a SNAP recipient, this can help you apply for college without having to pay a ton of money out of pocket.
You’ll need to reach out to the colleges in your area and ask them about any low income student discounts that they may have.
Free Legal Help
You may qualify for free legal assistance from your local legal aid organizations. This can help you save money on legal fees. We have a list here.
Many courts also waive fees for low income people who need to do court paperwork as well. This can be really helpful, especially with civil or family law issues.
EBT Discounts for Transportation
Getting around when you’re broke can be a serious challenge. If you’re struggling to afford the soaring cost of, well, everything, you’re not alone. That’s why we’re so glad we found transportation discounts as well!
Bike Share Discounts
Bike share programs and scooter share programs have become increasingly popular in cities and urban areas. It’s a great way to get around town without having to rely on a car or storing your own bike.
The best part is that many of these organizations offer discounts for people who receive SNAP, TANF or other government assistance!

Public Transportation Discounts
Many public transportation systems provide reduced fares for SNAP recipients, making commuting more affordable for work, school, or other necessary travel.
These programs are usually operated by your local transit authority or local nonprofits. You check our guide on how to get free bus passes for some ideas about who you should reach out to for details.
Free Lyft Rides
Lyft is a popular rideshare company that offers discounts for low income residents through their Lyft Up initiative. This program is a huge help to low income Americans but it is currently only available in certain areas.
Through Lyft Jobs Access, the company provides free rides to and from job interviews, job training programs and from work for the first three weeks of new employment. This program is available in 32 different cities across 23 states.
Through Lyft Grocery Access, the company provides discounted rides to grocery stores, farmers markets, food pantries and SNAP appointments. This program is available in Washington DC and they want to spread it to other food deserts as well.
If you’re interested, you can visit the Lyft Up website for details. In some cases, Goodwill and the United Way may also be able to help you coordinate these rides.

There are way more EBT discounts available nationwide than we could possibly list in this post. In fact, some of the very best deals we’ve found include zoos, aquariums, museums, state parks and even stores that only offer discounts to low income people in their state.

In Chicago IL, you can go to galter life center woth your ebt card and take free food courses, workout courses, this includes the pool, gym, classes and discounts. Let me verify my frirnd on this to be sure its just link card and nothing else in place or on top of the ebt card.

It may be worth contacting the program or school you are interested in. Usually, their financial aid office will know what is available.

Speaking of streaming services, never pass a library without seeing if you can get a card. Many library systems have streaming services, movies, music, even audiobooks, but may be restricted to a certain level of service per patron. Multiple library cards means multiple usages. And you can’t be penalized for not returning a book that returns itself!
@Jon Doe, this is spot on. some states permit you to have multiple library cards across the state (found this out over the pandemic when I was forced to move). The best thing about this is when you go to put a hold for a book in Libby, it will put you in the shortest queue (and it is possible to search across all libraries you have cards for!)
this is by far the best way to listen to audiobooks (Audible is so expensive!)

The Lion’s Lighthouse Foundation in Chamblee gave me a COMPREHENSIVE eye exam that was more thorough than any optometrist I’ve actually paid for. They offer a huge seection of lobby so many different styles of frames & lenses. After my exam was done, i chose my frames and lens options and my TOTAL was only $10.70 for everything! That’s the full exam, basic pair of bi-focal poly-carbonate lenses, fitting, consultation and my choice frames (still not broken after 27 months of full-time use).
I’ve been completely satisfied with the entire process from the first time my bf called them. They treated me with respect and took all the time i needed (even at the end of the day) to answer my questions. I only had to wait a couple weeks for their in-house lab to make the final product i could have paid $5 to have mailed to me, since i live abt 45 min away but i chose to have then fitted instead. My experience was impressive to say the very least. I dont know what goes into the approval, but I’m a SNAP recipient with no income, no SSI or SSDI, no dependents. My bf’s minimal income, was our only means. Also, if i had chosen progressive lenses, it would’ve been $60. I hope this helps lots of people!

On another note, in 2013 I went thru a local Lion’s Club for help and they referred me to Lens Crafters, where i was given a complete package including the exam, outdated, cheap frames and single vision only lenses with no extras. They would’ve allow me to use a Rx id just gotten 3 months prior by an opthamologist, as they required me to use their service. After i got my printed rx from them, i noticed that the 2 rx were completely different.
They were also rude & disrespectful toward me, and provided poor service. My choice of frames were on a single panel board of about 50-75 pairs total of mens, womens, kids that were all discontinued or unwanted. My chosen pair broke in 1½ months when the fishing line that holds the bottom of the lens had loosened up. But LensCrafters would not honor the 30-day warranty that was invoice in the Lion’s Club package, nor fix or replace them, because they were out of warranty… which started on the day i ordered the glasses after my exam, not the day i received them. They told me I needed to pay full price for new frames and lenses since the new lenses were only made for the frames that I had broken. They told me i should have been more careful with them. I’ll never go back there!

If your food was destroyed or became unsafe to eat because of lack of refrigeration you can ask for replacement EBT/SNAP benefits. If the loss is due to a power outage, the outage must have lasted for 4 hours or more. You may get up to the amount of one month’s EBT/SNAP benefits. 106 C.M.R. §364.900 (C).

You need to report the loss of food to DHS within 10 days of when the food was destroyed or you threw it out. You can do this verbally or in writing. Within the next 10 days, you also need to sign a sworn statement about the destruction of the food purchased with EBT/SNAP.

In the State of Michigan you need a letter filled out by your landlord of dates of power outages and times if possible and signed and dated by landlord and submit to your MI-DHS Caseworker in person.

I live in Maryland and it doesnt have a list of places where you can buy seeds and plants that produce food. it just states where you cant go; like Lowes or Home depot. does anyone know?

@Deborah, in WA there’s a process by which I was able to get $776 of car repairs done, but I think it was because I’m both employed and on TANF. (not just food stamps, I don’t think.)

Hi KJ. It may depend on if they view the card as a way of verifying low income or if they are restricting reduced-fee access to state residents.
