EBT Secrets You Need to Know

Before we dive into the list of state-by-state EBT discounts, there are a few other incredible EBT secrets that you need to know.

After a decade of researching the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, I’ve found all sorts of weird loopholes and rules. For example, did you know that you can use your food benefits to purchase certain non-food items?

Buy gift baskets and more! These rules are actually part of the actual federal food stamps law, so they can be used in all 50 states. Here’s a list of surprising things you can buy with EBT right now.

Fast food restaurants accept EBT cards in certain areas under certain circumstances. In order to use these benefits, you must meet strict criteria and live in a participating area. Not everyone can buy fast food with EBT, but some can!

Plant a garden! You can buy seeds and produce-bearing plants with your EBT card at participating retailers. You just need to realize that not every retailer is set up to process seeds and plants this way, so check with the seller before you run your card.

Get more food stamps?!  Many people only get $23 in food stamps each month. We’ve cracked the code on how the food stamps office determines your monthly food stamps allotment… and we’ve discovered ways that you can increase your monthly balance! Get more EBT using these loopholes that most people don’t know about.

You can even get cash back from your food stamps card! It’s true and it’s legal – no cash benefits required. One of our readers earned an additional $437.84 just by shopping with her food stamps card. She uses that extra money to buy diapers, wipes and other essentials. Start getting cash back with EBT today.

Shop at these retailers! Did you know that Costco, farmer’s markets and even some you-pick strawberry fields and orchards can accept EBT benefits? Some retailers even give you either discounts or free stuff if you shop there with your food stamps card.

Buy groceries online! In certain states, Amazon, Safeway, ShopRite, Hy-Vee, Hart’s Local Grocers, Dash’s Market, Wegmans and more can accept your EBT card for online grocery purchases.

Get groceries delivered from Instacart! You can use food stamps to order groceries on Instacart! You can order them for pickup or delivery.

Don’t Miss Out on Other Benefits

Many other assistance programs use the same eligibility guidelines as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, so if you’re eligible for food benefits then you may also be eligible for these programs too!

FREE Internet! Many internet providers offer low income discounts. When you pick one of these discounted plans and combine the Affordable Connectivity Program subsidy, you could get your internet completely free. And if you’re eligible for SNAP, you’re usually eligible for these automatically!

Utility discounts! Many utility companies offer low income discounts, payment assistance and free weatherization assistance for low income borrowers! If you qualify for food stamps, then you might qualify for some amazing savings on your utilities!

Property tax exemptions! If you own your own home and you’re low income, you may be eligible for property tax exemptions that can drastically reduce your housing costs. Check with your county for more information about these exemptions and how to apply. This benefit is retroactive in several states, so you could even receive a check for the property tax you’ve paid over the last 2-3 years! When I filed for the first time, I received a check for several thousand dollars.

Veterinary care grants! If you have a furry friend, you’ll want to know about these agencies that offer financial assistance with veterinary bills!
