How to Save Money on Your Florida Power Bills

(Last Updated On: October 22, 2018)

The electric bill can be a budget-buster when you’re surviving on a low income. Fortunately, your power company can usually help. There are several unknown or little-advertised programs that power companies may offer that can help lower the cost of your power bill.

Most power companies offer a budget billing plan, which averages the annual cost of electricity in a home and bills the customer in 12 even installments. This can help low-income customers maintain a budget and avert payment problems, especially during the more expensive winter months.

Some companies even offer free energy-efficiency improvements (including free LED light bulbs!), free weatherization upgrades and even payment assistance programs!

Just click the link below to find out what discounts, rebates and other money-saving programs are offered by YOUR local utility company!

  1. I am having problems with my air conditioner. I am low income, disabled. Have problems with asthma, COPD. Can you tell me where can I get help, please.

    1. Hi, Doris! I would contact your local Community Action Council. You should be eligible for help through your state’s Weatherization Program. Your cty and county may also offer rehabilitation grants or low-cost loans that can help. Contact your city development department for info on that. 🙂

  2. Called my electric company Withlacoochee Electric here in Florida, they told me no discounts or any kind of help with anything. You pay your bill or they shut you off

    1. Hey, Marti! Thanks for letting me know. Often, the basic customer service representatives aren’t even aware of some of the programs that are available to their customers. For example, a quick search on the Withlacoochee website reveals that customers can qualify for assistance through Operation Round-Up. The company is also a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, so you have access discounts and perks in your community. There are likely community and state perks that can help you with your power bill, also. I’ll add it to the research list and we’ll get a full write-up done as soon as we can. 🙂

    1. I’m sure there is! I’ve added this to our research list and we’ll investigate what this company offers as soon as we can. Thanks for asking, Rhonnett! 🙂

    1. We’ll find out! Thanks for asking, Tina! I’ve added that to our research list and we’ll investigate Gulf Power as soon as we can. 🙂

    1. Hey, Angela! Our researchers should be tackling JEA within the next week or so. I hope to have this information for you very soon! 🙂
